Pete’s Bees is a family-run apiary based out of Buckner, Missouri. Three generations of Petes tend to the hives, looking after the bees and making sure they have what they need to thrive. From humble beginnings in 2017, the small operation continues to grow with a strong focus on bees and pollinator conservation.
Started by a physician and a scientist, Pete’s Bees has adopted a science-based approach to beekeeping. We monitor the hive activity by constantly measuring the weight, inside/outside temperatures, and several other variables. This data is shared via open source tools to The Data Center for Honeybee Research, as well as NASA’s HoneyBeeNet. Bees can be fickle research assistants, but the information collected from the hives gives researchers a way to monitor plant-pollinator interactions in our area of the country.
As you’ll no doubt find stated several times around the site, the byproducts (“bee-products?”) of the hobby come second to the bees, but they do come. We harvest in the summer, bottling up the delicious, raw honey and using the beeswax to create lip balms, lotions, and soaps. Be sure to check the Products page to see what items we have in stock and where you can find us selling them.
From all of us at Pete’s Bees, thanks for stopping by.
